April 22, 2009 > Tri-Valley Elite Lightning wins Strictly Hoops Tournament Tri-Valley Elite Lightning wins Strictly Hoops Tournament Submitted By Nanette Cook Photos By Andria Peterson Tri-Valley Elite Lightning, a girls U-11 Fremont AAU competitive basketball team, competed in their first tournament of the season, "Strictly Hoops," held in San Rafael on Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19. Lightning had a pair of impressive wins to reach the championship game: 46-10 over Pacific Storm; and 45-15 over the North Bay Chicks In the championship game, the Lightning started out slow, but then took command of the game, which was tied, 13-13, at the half. Lightning's outstanding team play in the second half sealed the victory, with a final score of 24-17 over the East Bay Panthers giving Lightning their first-place finish. Tri-Valley Elite Lightning players participating in the tournament were: Arianna Alfaro, Louisa Bevilacqua, Lauren Clark, Peyton Cook, Brittany Deadwiler, Rena Dragony, Mariah Elzy, Sophia Leon, Alexis Owens, Victoria Peterson and Keilani Waxdeck. The team is led by coaches Bruce Funk and Brankica Rodic.
