April 22, 2009 > Let the racing begin Let the racing begin Photos By William Mancebo The weekend of May 15-17 officially kicks off the 53rd racing season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas. First up is the Monterey Festival of Speed, featuring the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series; second, the biggest event on the 2009 schedule: the Fifth Annual Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, set for June 3-5, and featuring the prestigious MotoGP World Championship motorcycle race; and that is followed by the 36th Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, the premier historic race in North America, on August 14- 16. American Le Mans final, on October 9-11, concludes the season. The event races after dark with exotic Le Mans prototypes and GT machines that compete into the evening with a four-hour race.
