Play poker and get a tax deduction

Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program (BORP) will be holding their sixth annual Poker Slam, benefiting athletes with disabilities. It is a no limit Texas Hold'em tournament, and will be on Saturday, April 25, from 5:30-11 p.m. at Scott's Seafood Restaurant, Jack London Square, 2 Broadway, Oakland, 94607.
For a $100 donation, approximately $25 is tax deductible; you get an appetizer buffet, prizes and poker. There will be a raffle and silent auction with the first place prize being two tickets on Southwest Airlines.
Earlier in March, BORP Power Soccer Division I and II teams took first and second place respectively at the Western Regional Championship Tournament to qualify for an invitation to the National Tournament in Indiana, June 19-21. This Poker Slam is to help send the two teams to Nationals. Raffle and silent auction items, and donated prizes, are also needed.
BORP teams are coached by Chris Finn who also coached the U.S. National team that traveled to Tokyo a couple of years ago and brought home the gold medal in the World Power Soccer Cup. Power Soccer is a sport played by the disabled in motorized wheelchairs, four to a side including the goalie, plus substitutes. It is played with an over sized soccer ball on a basketball size hard court or parking lot.
The poker tournament starts at 6:30 p.m. If you register and pay before April 22, you will get a free gift. For more information, phone 510-849-4663 or fax 510-849-4616 BORP, 600 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, 94710.
