Panthers blank Strikers

In girls U-15 House League play, the Panthers kept up their winning ways, by handing the Strikers a 4-0 loss on Saturday, April 4.
From the opening whistle, both teams played hard with most of the game played in the middle of the field and few scoring chances at either end. It took a great play to open up the scoring as Kinsey Mead took a long free kick right to the feet of Sarina Utamsing on the edge of the Strikers box. Utamsing controlled the ball on her first touch, turned and hammered her shot past the stranded goalie.
A couple of minutes later, Utamsing was the creator as she slipped the ball through to Erica Ohye, who just beat her defender to the ball and scored on a perfect shot into the lower left corner of the goal. Although down 2-0, the Strikers pushed forward to try and get a goal back. The Panthers defended well and just before half time, Utamsing thundered a towering clearance down field which Ohye ran onto, passing two defenders on her way to the ball before calmly slotting home her second goal of the game.
At the start of the second half, the Panthers pushed forward again and it wasn't long before a throw-in from Rhian Dunn found Ohye unmarked in the Strikers' box, and her quick turn and shot did not give the Strikers' goalie any time to react before the ball hit the back of the net for Ohye's hat-trick and the Panthers' fourth goal.
Apart from the goal scorers, several Panther players had strong performances, including Natalie Cory who almost scored on three occasions, and Nicole Gronski, who had an exceptional game both on offense and defense in midfield.
Kudos to Panther defensive players - Megan Dunn, Sanya Sehgal, Sanchla Sehgal and Kinsey Mead - for making it possible for keepers Meghana Paranjpe and Sanya Sehgal to record another shutout for the Panthers' season.
