Elementary chess team to compete in national championships

Fifteen Mission San Jose Elementary (MSJE) students will travel to Nashville to compete in the National Scholastic Chess Championships this weekend.
MSJE is the highest-rated team in the K-6 Championship Division and will enter teams in the K-5 and K-3 Championship Divisions as well. MSJE has won the elementary school chess championship of Northern California four years in a row and hopes to keep the winning streak alive.
Sixth graders Jerome Sun, James Kwok and Hemang Jangle, along with fourth grader Armaan Kalyanpur, will compete in the K-6 Division.
Also competing for MSJE are first grader Joseph Wan; second grader Amit Sant; third graders Alvin Kong, Eric Zhu and Shalin Shah; fourth graders Erik Wong and Alex Yin; and fifth graders Emily Zhu, Evan Wong and Kevin Zhangxu.
