Psssst - the answer is compost
Pop quiz! 1. When biodegradable material decomposes, what useful product is created? 2. What soil conditioner and fertilizer holds moisture and nutrients to help plants flourish? 3. What can Fremont residents with curbside yard waste service get for free?
If your answer to each question was "compost," you're not only smart, you're helping to save the environment.
For the 14th year, Allied Waste Services of Alameda County and the City of Fremont will give two free bags of compost to residents who participate in yard waste and food scraps recycling. The 2009 Compost Giveaway will be Saturday, March 28, from 8 a.m. to noon, while supplies last.
The drive-through pick up once again will be at the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) parking lot, near I-880 and south Fremont Boulevard. Participants must enter off Grimmer Boulevard. Customers must bring their most recent Allied Waste bill to the giveaway as proof of program participation.
For more information, call Allied Waste Customer Service at (510) 657-3500.
