Restaurant Review: Vida Y Vino Wine Bistro
By Dennis Wolfe
It was Valentine's Day and I asked my wife if she wanted to go to a unique place to eat. So many people had told me about the Wine Bistro that it began calling to me and off we went. It's easy to find once oriented to its location in the Pacific Commons shopping complex next to CitiBank but on your first visit, it can be easy to miss too. We went early to avoid the crowd expected during normal dinnertime hours and even then the place was moderately full.
Before I tell you about our dining experience, I can put your mind at ease about other important matters. The rest rooms are very clean and modern. The kitchen is compact and also very clean. I am impressed by how many restaurant owners understand how important it is to have a clean environment for their customers. It is appreciated.
I also had a chance to visit with Vida Y Vino's owner, Audrey Scott. This IS her baby and she loves her creation, what you might see on the Spanish Mediterranean Coast. She expresses sincere happiness over knowing that her dream is fast becoming a very chic place to go in Fremont. It shows in her attitude, in the dˇcor and especially in the presentation and quality of the food. I could see that our fellow diners were having the same reaction.
Places like this are mostly seen in Europe at outdoor street cafes. So when you walk to the front door, don't be surprised on a warm evening to see outside tables crowded with people sitting in tall chairs and standing around high tables. No worries about the weather on a cool, breezy night as there are heaters to keep you warm.
Once inside you see a bar area well-stocked from wine country areas around the world. In front of the bar a very nice lounge area with comfortable seating invites visitors to settle in, relax and on some nights - mainly weekends and special occasions - listen to live music. You may even be lucky enough to catch an impromptu magic show if magician Ryan Adler happens to be visiting.
The unique atmosphere of Vida Y Vino is matched by the dˇcor. Comfortable sofas and easy chairs are matched with tall bistro-style tables and chairs. Typical restaurant tables and chairs are nowhere to be found.
We ordered soup and lightly grilled Panini sandwiches. My wife had Brie and Mushroom soup while I had French Onion. Both were very good - the Brie and Mushroom is excellent! Both sandwiches, Chicken Pesto and Turkey and Blue Cheese arrived with a small, simple dinner salad and crispy, crunchy potato chips.
We both like Chianti wines and sure enough they had an excellent Chianti from the Tuscany region of Italy. Although the meal called for a white wine, we are not sophisticated connoisseurs but do know what we like and were not disappointed. The Chianti was very smooth and complemented the meal.
Vida Y Vino Wine Bistro is a great place to dine or just enjoy a great glass of wine. This establishment along with many others you will discover in our reviews prove how wrong the notion that dining out in our area is extremely limited or nonexistent.
Yes we do!
