After their 3-1 win on opening day, The Panthers were feeling confident about playing against No Clue who had lost their first game. However it was No Clue who started stronger and put the Panthers under pressure from the opening whistle. Good defense by Megan Dunn, Kinsey Mead, Sanya Sehgal and Sanchala Sehgel, and another excellent game by goalkeeper Meghana Paranjpe limited No Clue in scoring opportunities.
The Panthers only shots on goal came from breakaways by their fast forwards. On one such breakaway, with 10 minutes left in the first half, Erica Ohye received a nice pass from Molly Cory just 20 yards inside No Clue's half. Ohye jetted right just inside the 18-yard box to lose a defender and drilled a low, hard shot past the keeper to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead into half time.
In the second half, The Panthers played better, but most of the play was still in the Panthers' half of the field. Again, good defense limited No Clue to only a few opportunities, and although they won several corners, they didn't challenge Panthers' goalie.
Twenty minutes into the half, Panthers' sisters Madison and Kinsey Mead linked up before sending a long through ball up the wing towards Ohye. Ohye raced onto the ball past a defender, got to the ball half a yard before the diving keeper, and poked the ball under her into the gaping net. That goal gave the Panthers a two-goal cushion. They would go on to beat No Clue, 2-0. |
