Pros and Cons of the Death Penalty
Submitted By John R. Smith
California has the largest and most expensive death row in the country, and 680 people await execution in our prisons. Processing all the current cases will take 25 years and cost an estimated $40 billion.
The League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark and Union City is presenting a discussion regarding the Pros and Cons of the Death Penalty in California. Participating will be Assistant District Attorney Angela Backers and American Civil Liberties Union Lawyer Natasha Minsker as well as the Logan High School Forensic team with Justin Chan and Patrick Berger.
The Death Penalty in California is a lighting rod issue that foments strong passions. This is a complex issue and one that the League invites the public to learn about and discuss. Paline Weaver, FNUC League member will be moderating the discussion and facilitating questions from the audience.
