Free or low-cost home repair is available for low-income residents who live in Alameda County. Three programs are available:
Minor Home Repair - provides free emergency plumbing, carpentry, electrical, railings, grab bars, water heater, furnace, doors, locks and more.
Rehabilitation Loan - is a 3-5 percent simple interest, deferred payment loan for major repair projects up to $60,000. Repayment may be deferred until the homeowner transfers ownership or refinances.
A grant for up to $5,000 in energy efficiency work, accessibility repairs, and exterior painting may be included. An accessibility grant pays for free upgrades - such as ramps, railings, doorways or counter modifications - to accommodate those with special needs.
Curb Appeal/Paint Grant - provides free exterior painting, landscaping, driveway replacement and other limited exterior repairs.
Funds are provided by sponsoring cities and the Alameda County Community Development Agency. Programs are administered through the county's Construction Department. Eligibility and restrictions vary for each program, so call (510) 670-5399 for more information. |
