February 18, 2009 > Citizen Police Academy to begin in Newark Citizen Police Academy to begin in Newark Submitted By Terri Hernandez The next Academy is scheduled to begin February 25, 2009. Sessions will be held every Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for 7 weeks. Participants will meet primarily at the Silliman Activity Center (6800 Mowry Avenue), although a few sessions require meeting at other local venues. Our goal is to provide the community with a "behind the scenes" look at our department through a series of lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on exercises. Participant requirements: 1) minimum age of 21 years old; 2) live or work in the City of Newark; 3) no prior felony convictions; and 4) no misdemeanor arrests within three years of application.
