Last Wednesday, Jan. 21, the Gladiators' men's team traveled to archrival, and Coast Conference-North Division (CCND) first-place, Ohlone, on the Fremont Campus. After the dust settled, Chabot came away with a 71-65 victory, and a share of first place.
The Gladiators' followed that with a 76-64 home win over Skyline of San Bruno on Friday, Jan. 23, to improve their league record to 4-1 and 16-10 overall. The Men now have a three-game winning streak.
Next up for Head Coach Denny Aye's squad are away league games against City College of San Francisco (CCSF) on Wednesday, Jan. 28; and at sister college, Las Positas of Livermore, Saturday, Jan. 31.
The Gladiators return home to the Hayward Campus on Wednesday, February 4, against CCND foe, Foothill of Los Altos Hills, at 7:30 p.m. Chabot, at 4-1, are now a half game behind Ohlone, 5-1, in CCND play.
For Head Coach, Don Queyrel's Ladies, it has been a difficult couple of weeks. After upsetting undefeated CCSF on January 9, then defeating sister college, Las Positas, on January 14, the Lady Gladiators were demolished by Foothill, 80-40.
Early in the Foothill game, starting point guard, Dezzirae Cafferata, had to leave with an ankle injury; then later in the game, leading scorer, Rose Thompson, also went down with a sprained ankle. Without those two ladies, the women had no chance.
The Foothill game was followed by a loss at Skyline, 59-51, on January 23. Chabot will host nonconference foe, San Jose City College, on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Chabot women return to CCND play at home on Friday, Jan. 30, against CCSF, and at home again on Wednesday, February 4, versus Los Positas. All home games have a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
