Milpitas Community Chinese School is going to have their annual Chinese New Year celebration on January 31. This year we will celebrate the New Year a bit differently from the previous years. Instead of performances by each class, our parents will contribute Chinese food, organize cultural activities, and students will volunteer to perform Chinese musical instruments and other traditional performances.
In September 2008, we moved from our old school site, Rancho Middle School in Milpitas. We are now located at Milpitas Christian School, which is at the border of Milpitas and San Jose.
This year, our school opened a new Special Mandarin class for non-Chinese speaking students/families. This class is taught in English and the students learn Simplified Chinese. The Special Mandarin class uses the new technology and materials to motivate the students to learn Chinese in a fun way. The students in this class are at different ages with different cultural backgrounds.
Our school still offers Cantonese classes from Kindergarten through 6th grade. From 7th to 9th grade, the students will learn Mandarin using Hanyu pinyin (a system of writing Mandarin in a romanized alphabet, like the letters in English). The students from Kindergarten through 9th grade learn how to write in Traditional Chinese.
Our Chinese classes are on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We welcome anyone who has interest in Chinese culture to join us in our community. More information on our school can be found on our website www.mccs-usa.org.
