December 31, 2008 > Newark Memorial girls take second Newark Memorial girls take second Submitted By Timothy Hess Newark Memorial High Lady Cougars wrestled into a second-place finish at the Lady Lancer Wrestling Tournament at East Union High School in Manteca on Saturday, Dec. 27. The Lady Cougars earned 93 points, finishing only behind tournament champs Jesse Bethel (113.5 points); Edison finished third with 91.5. For Newark Memorial, Thuy Tran went 5-0 with five pins as she placed first at 114 pounds; Alyssa Hess (154) had three pins on her way to first place; and Laura Choate (132) went 4-1 on the day and earned third place with three pins and a technical fall.
