Incorporating various mediums in art

The Fremont Art Association (FAA) will introduce their newest guest artist, Judy Gittelsohn, in January. Gittelsohn will present a lecture/demo on acrylic paints, gels and mediums: an advanced technical explanation of acrylics, and their inherent possibilities. This lecture covers information about the different types of pigments, viscosities, and types of paints, grounds and color mixing. Various gels and mediums will be demonstrated.

Participants will learn how to extend paint to save money, and mix paints with gels to create unique textural surfaces. Using different products to prepare a surface for watercolors, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil and soft pastels will also be explored. Techniques for iridescent and metallic paints will be shown. The lecture covers, light fastness of pigments and health and safety concerns. Literature and free samples of paint and gels will be provided to those who attend, while supplies last.

Judy Gittelsohn has been painting in the Bay Area for over 20 years. She exhibits widely and her work is collected around the world in both private and corporate collections. She is represented by Anne Loucks Gallery and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists' Gallery. Her paintings have been published in Time magazine and Metropolitan Home Magazine. She has received several grants to teach art to developmentally disabled individuals, people recovering from illness or injury and at risk youth - mount shows, produce murals and create publications of their artwork.
