Arica Jones, California School for the Deaf multi-sport star, was named a first-team All-American by the National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Council (NDIAC) for her accomplishments in volleyball during the fall season.
Jones, a senior who is currently leading the CSD girls basketball team in scoring, did just about everything for the volleyball team. Her credentials include: 301 kills, 88 blocks, 58 aces and 22 assists; Spike Out All-Tournament Team; Bay Counties League (BCL) MVP; North Counties Section and BCL All-Tournament Team; and she holds the CSD record for blocks in a season (88), blocks in a game (9), kills in a season (301) and kills in a game (26).
CSD had three other seniors named NDIAC All Americans, two for the second team and one for the third. Team captain Shea Rasmus (75 kills, 485 assists, 6 blocks, 85 aces) along with Janel Schmidt (12 kills, 1 assist, 62 aces) were both named to the second team; Britnee Hursin (136 kills, 14 assists, 6 blocks, 79 aces) made third team.
CSD finished the regular season 20-15, 11-1 in the BCL (co-champs with Contra Costa Christian). They were ousted by CCC in the BCL finals, but were awarded the third seed for the NCS Division VI tournament. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals by SF-Waldorf in four sets.
