Charles King, Golden Hills Arts Association, donated a painting to the city. "The painting is entitled 'The Milpitas Time Machine.' And it's the history of Milpitas going back probably four or five-thousand years, right up until the new library that will be opening in January" said King before the November 18 council.
Then-mayor Esteves explained that Charles King and his wife have resided in Milpitas since 1968, having emigrated from England. He has been involved in the art field for many years, having been employed as a technical illustrator in the rocket and missile industry for the final ten years of his working life. Upon retirement in 1990 he took to oil painting, being involved in local art clubs in the Bay Area.
Since 2002 he has been active as a volunteer crew member aboard the S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien, a World War II liberty ship docked in San Francisco. He works as a docentand has become involved in the enhancement of the ship's museum in the form of many paintings and maps. The painting will most likely hang in the City Manager's office, according to city administration.
