Mt. Eden boys soccer has up-and-down week
By Giovanni Albanese Jr.
Mt. Eden High boys soccer had a full slate of games last week, resulting in one win, two losses and a tie in four games.
On Monday, Dec. 1, they played Las Lomas to a scoreless first half. In the second half, they were victims of two penalty-shot goals, which Head Coach Heriberto Portilla deemed "bad luck" for his team, who played a solid game. Las Lomas prevailed, 2-0.
They were right back at it on Tuesday, Dec. 2, against Berean Christian, and bounced back with a dominating victory, 6-0. Six players scored for Mt. Eden while keeper Daniel Marquez notched a clean slate.
After a day off, they took the field on December 4 against Northgate. Mt. Eden fell behind by two goals at the end of the first half, 3-1. With the help of Jose Loya (1 G, 1 A) and Juan Chavez (2 G), Mt. Eden managed to salvage a tie, 4-4, by outscoring Northgate 3-1 in the second half.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, Mt. Eden took the field against Acalanes hoping to improve on their two-game unbeaten streak. Despite eight shots at goal, they only managed to put one past the Acalanes keeper, eventually losing 3-1.
Mt. Eden's record stands at 2-4-2 on the season. Next up for Mt. Eden: at San Lorenzo on December 11; at Clayton Valley on December 13; and at Castro Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 16. |
