Thunderstorms finish undefeated
Submitted By Pat Mapelli
FC Fremont U-12 girls soccer team, Thunderstorms, wrapped up its fall season last month by defeating the Dublin Galaxy in the Crossroads Championship match, 5-0.
Overall, they finished their regular season in first place with a record of 11-0; completed the Director's Cup Tournament in third place, with a record of 3-0-1; and completed the Crossroads Tournament in first place, with a record of 4-0.
Through their 19-game season, the nearly impenetrable defense allowed only three goals while the attacking nature of their offense averaged nearly four goals per game.
The team - Shannon Byrnes, Shelby Casey, Lexi Christopulos, Ayotli Gomez, Megan Heyes, Emily Hoeven, Kristal Hong, Alex Jacobs, Jamie Kennerk, Chloe Lambert, Brooke Mapelli, Alex Mejia, Neha Pasricha, Kavya Ravikanti and Elizabeth Roney - formed chemistry, both on and off of the field, that was something to be envious of and admired.
The camaraderie, teamwork and skill development was lead by the efforts of Coach Cole Casey. His time-commitment and dedication to the team was apparent at every practice and game. His ability to set standards and goals for the season bared their fruit by the team having the kind of season that most teams only dream of; the assistant coaches (Ozzie Gomez, Mark Christopulos and Pat Mapelli) provided the one-on-one and small-group training essentials for the team to be successful; and team volunteers and parents made sure that all the "I's" were dotted and "T's" were crossed for the girls to have a fun, successful season. |
