Chabot loses in Wine Country Classic final
By Giovanni Albanese Jr.
Chabot College went into Napa Valley College's Wine Country Classic tournament over Thanksgiving weekend trying to make an identity of themself; they left as the tournament runner-up.
Their first game matched them up against Redwoods. Chabot got off to a slow start, only scoring 23 points in the first half, but exploded for 38 in the second half, giving them a nine-point victory, 61-52.
On Saturday, Nov. 29, Chabot opposed Modesto in the semifinals. The first half saw Chabot pick up where they left off against Redwoods. Going into the half, Modesto saw themselves down 25 points, 48-23. In the second half, Chabot was on cruise control as Modesto tried to claw itself back into the game. However, it was too much of an uphill battle. Chabot prevailed and advanced to the finals, 90-75.
Siskiyous was Chabot's final hurdle between them and the Wine Country Classic championship on Sunday, Nov. 30. Chabot picked a bad time to hit a cold streak. Their output in the entire finals barely outdid a single half in the semifinals. They tallied 22 and 31 points while Siskiyous did its best to run away and hide. The final was a lopsided affair, with Siskiyous winning 75-53.
Over the course of three days, Chabot won a tight defensive struggle, and won and lost in blow outs. They improved their overall record to 7-3, and hope to improve on that record, as well as their consistency, this weekend at the 71st Annual Modesto Tournament, from Thursday, Dec. 4, through Saturday, Dec. 6.
