Ohlone starts slow, finishes strong
Men's basketball consolation champs at Shasta Invitational
Ohlone men's basketball traveled to Redding for the Shasta Invitational Tournament from Friday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 23. After a tough defeat to begin the weekend, the Renegades bounced back by winning the remainder of games, handly.
On Friday, Nov. 21, Ohlone tipped off the tournament with a gritty Yuba team. It was a defensive struggle, with neither team holding much of an edge on the other. In the end, Yuba, the tournament's eventual runner-up, squeaked out a 62-58 win.
Ohlone was placed into the loser's side of the bracket, matching them up against American River College on Saturday, Nov. 22. The Renegades bounced back from the opening round loss by trouncing ARC 91-59.
With the win over American River, Ohlone advanced to the consolation championship on Sunday, Nov. 23, against Redwoods. Ohlone picked up where they left off on Saturday, dominating Redwoods on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. The Renegades finished off their tournament run as consolation champions, beating Redwoods, 73-45.
Ohlone improved its record to 5-2 with its performance over the weekend. Next up for the Renegades will be a home game versus DeAnza on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 5 p.m., followed by a visit to West Valley College on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 5 p.m.
