Holiday Show and Gala
By Vidya Pradhan
Fremont's cultural gem, the Olive Hyde art gallery, is getting ready for its annual Gala and Holiday Show on December 5, 6, and 7. The show is conducted by the Olive Hyde Art Guild and is the only fundraiser for the gallery. This year marks the 26th such event and promises to be varied and exciting.
The highlight of the show is an original painting by Thomas Cory, a Fremont artist whose work as a minister informs his art. Arising from a deep love of nature, his beautiful landscapes and wildlife paintings have earned him several awards and prizes and have been exhibited in many galleries.
In addition, the show will feature more than eighty artists who will offer their pieces for sale. Original works will include ceramics, paintings, fiber art, wood, holiday art and craft and jewelry.
Funds raised will help support the Olive Hyde Art Gallery, the city of Fremont's "Art in the Schools" program, art books for the library and scholarships for high school seniors wishing to pursue further education in art. This year, part of the proceeds will also be used to create scholarships for children to attend Fremont's summer art classes.
The Gala will be held December 5, and has an admission fee of $15 which includes food and wine. Attendees to the Gala get the first selection of art pieces for sale. The Holiday Show and Sale, which is free, continues on Saturday and Sunday.
