Public meeting for the East-West Connector Project

Submitted By Tess Lengyel

To keep the public involved in the planning process for the East-West Connector
Project, the Alameda County Transportation Authority (ACTA), in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the cities of Fremont and Union City, is hosting a series of informational open house meetings in November in preparation for the release of the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) in late 2008.

As part of a larger, comprehensive infrastructure plan for the growing Fremont/Union City/Newark area, the proposed project would improve the transportation system between Interstate 880 (I-880) on the west and Mission Boulevard (State Route 238) on the east. By reducing local traffic congestion and driving time, this new east-west link in southern Alameda County would improve transit operations and provide greater access to transit facilities and existing and planned projects in Fremont and Union City.

"An efficient transportation system is key to supporting current and future economic growth in Fremont and Union City," said Arthur L. Dao, Deputy Director of ACTA. "The East-West Connector Project is an essential component of the larger plan to improve the transportation system in southern Alameda County."

The East-West Connector Project proposes to widen portions of Decoto Road and Paseo Padre Parkway, construct a new roadway from Paseo Padre Parkway to Mission Boulevard and improve Mission Boulevard where it intersects with the new roadway. The overall length of the proposed project is approximately 3 miles.

ACTA is holding an informational open house meeting to provide an update on the progress of the East-West Connector Project.
