The Grand Parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West, an organization dedicated to preservation of California history, is offering three scholarships in 2009 to qualified high school juniors and seniors, college freshmen or junior college students planning to transfer to a four-year institution.

One $2,000 and two $1,000 grants will be awarded based on such criteria as academic standing and community involvement.

There is no essay to write. The only criteria for application, open to both males and females, are being a native-born Californian and a relative or member of the Native Sons.

Forms are available through career counselors at area high schools and colleges or from Washington Parlor 169's Recording Secretary John Watson at (510) 792-5897 or (510) 552-6984.

Entry deadline is March 1, 2009 with the winners to be selected on May 15, 2009.
