It's crunch time for Chabot College football
By Idorenyin Uto-Uko
Coming into the season, many had high hopes of where the Chabot College football team would finish. Unfortunately, those high hopes have been met with a typical season, according to head coach Danny Calcagno.
Chabot has gone through an up-and-down season, compiling a record of four wins and three losses. "We don't have a lot of stars, but, we are a good team," said Coach Calcagno. The team is lead by Roy Polk, Tommy Lofton, Sifa Etu and Javon Williams.
During the summer coach Calcagno's linemen won the prestigious "Big Man" challenge. The event featured over 30 Northern California community college offensive and defensive linemen. The event, hosted by Chabot, showcased drills that highlighted quickness, agility and techniques.
Since then, there have been few bright spots for the Chabot Gladiators. The highly recruited linemen combination of Etu and Williams has been a key to the team's success. But in order to reach the playoffs, the Gladiators have to win two of its last three games. Winning six games will give them a chance at playing in a bowl game.
"I like our chances. We are very young on offense," said Calcagno. "If we can take care of the football we will be in the thick of things." |
