Holiday art show spices up fall

By Julie Grabowski

Union City gets another infusion of diverse art this fall as the Art Association of the East Bay (AAEB) launches the First Annual Fall Holiday Art Show. The event runs throughout the month of November and is housed at Paddy's Coffee House, a tremendous friend and support to local artists. AAEB's newest offering was created to increase the opportunity to showcase multiple artists and media, as well as allow the public more time to view the art and make purchases.

About a dozen artists from the Tri-City area will be featured sharing their talents in photography, watercolor, acrylic, oil, color pencil, pastel, pottery, hand-poured candles and more. Prices and contact information will be posted, with purchases to be arranged directly through the individual artist. "AAEB feels this will offer the artists a great opportunity to sell their work, hopefully to be given as unique holiday gifts," says founder and president Diane La Mountaine.

The Fall Holiday Art Show is the second month-long show from AAEB, joining "Sharing the Arts," which takes place every May. La Mountaine hopes to add one more to the count, as well as create more outlets for local artists. "AAEB is working with other local businesses, obtaining 'gallery' wall space with the intent to begin a revolving art show and more opportunity to sell art throughout the coming years." La Mountaine urges the community to stay tuned as AAEB will soon launch its Web-site containing links to Paddy's and other art advocate sites with information about upcoming art shows and activities.

The month of November is the perfect time to stop into Paddy's for a cuppa and experience the voice of our creative community. A casual reception for artists and friends will be held at the close of the show on November 29th from 2:30 p.m.- 4 p.m. A little bit of space is still available for interested artists.
