Fremont Asian Lions Club and Friends of Children with Special Needs Promote better vision
Submitted By Ivy Wu
Fremont Asian Lions Club has adopted one of the Lions Club International programs - Lions In Sights (LIS), as one of its focus programs this year, and Fremont Asian Lions Club is proud to partner on this project with Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN), a 501(C)3, a non-profit organization serving over 2,000 special needs children and families in Fremont and the greater Bay Area. The mission of Lions In Sight (LIS) is to promote the collection of used eyeglasses for the purpose of recycling and use in developing nations worldwide, so that basic eye care and eyeglasses will be brought to people in need all over the world. With the improved vision, disadvantaged children will be given a chance for better education, adults an improved employment opportunity and seniors more independence. Used eye glasses will be collected at various locations in Fremont such as local schools, churches, FCSN, etc. These eye glasses will be measured and sorted by the special needs individuals at FCSN, many of whom make excellent workers, because they take their work seriously and they really appreciate the opportunity to serve others. The LIS project offers the members our community, including our students and those in the disability community, an excellent opportunity to share the Lions Club's vision. It also allows all interested parties the opportunity to work together to contribute to a good cause. This project will be launched at FCSN Center at 2300 Peralta Blvd. , Fremont , CA on Thursday, October 16 at 11a.m. Anyone who has used glasses to give away, please feel free to drop them off at FCSN Center. |
