'Let it Ring' fundraiser to defeat Prop 8
Submitted By T.J. Kahn
Two people - sharing the same house, paying the same bills - one has to leave early for work, the other runs errands. One has a sick aunt and the other hasn't yet scheduled that teacher conference for their son. Somehow the dog gets fed, the sink gets fixed, and there's just enough time to smile before falling, exhausted, into bed. And by the way, they're both the same gender.
When Proposition 8 was put on the California ballot, same-gender couples had already been living and working together, raising children and paying taxes. The campaign to write hate into our state constitution and deny them the same civil liberties as other couples is unconscionable and needs to be stopped and stopped now.
On October 12th, the Welcoming Congregation Committee of the Mission Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation will sponsor a fundraiser to defeat proposition 8. Entertainment will include music by the Oakland East Bay Gay Men's Chorus, speakers from the "No On 8" Campaign, and displays by wedding service providers such as florists, DJ's, and photographers. Refreshments will be served. Come join us for an enjoyable afternoon of entertainment and solidarity as we come together to promote commitment and love and fight against cruelty and hate. Let Marriage Ring!
