New Haven Unified School District CAHSEE Report

The state released final 2007-08 reports on the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). A total of 1,570 New Haven students took the English/language arts section of the CAHSEE during 2007-08, and 1,523 took the math section (some students in grades 11-12 and some Adult School students may have taken the test more than once and been counted more than once.
Among 995 sophomores taking the English/language arts test for the first time, 85 percent passed, up from 83 percent last year. Statewide, 79 percent passed. Among 998 sophomores taking the math test for the first time, 81 percent passed, same as last year. Statewide, 78 percent passed.
Among all students, 69 percent passed the English/language arts section, compared to 61 percent statewide, and 68 percent passed the math section, compared to 60 percent statewide. Students have the opportunity to take the test eight times -- once as sophomores, twice as juniors and five times as seniors - and those who have not passed both sections by the end of their senior year can continue taking the exam until they pass it. |
