Newark Celtic, Girls Under-12 Class Three Team, was crowned champions of the Castro Valley First Look Tournament held Saturday and Sunday, August 23-24. In preliminary games against Healdsburg Club America, Castro Valley Power and Alameda Islanders, no goals were allowed by Celtic goal keeper Claudia Henriquez and the defensive line. The defense is made up of Tyna Moorer, Amanda Fernandez, Gisselle Jimenez, and Aliciya Campusano. The team scored a combination of seventeen goals against their opponents with superb teamwork. Netting the ball for the Newark team were Savannah Brand, Marissa Angeja, Breanna Finnigan, and two by Alia Caro against Healdsburg Club America in winning 5-0; Jimenez, Moorer, Brand, Angeja, Fernandez, and Sophia Fuentes in the 6-0 victory against Castro Valley Power; and Alyssa Mascote and Fuentes in defeat of Alameda Islanders, 2-0. Santa Rosa Shooting Stars faced Newark Celtic in the finals with the Celtic team winning 4-1. "Parents you should be proud of the Celtic team. After playing three tournaments they have taken two championships. They have only allowed two goals against them while scoring over thirty goals. Every tournament they are improving and they are starting to work as a team. I am very proud of all of them," said Coach Dave Padilla. The Celtic team concluded their tournament play last weekend when they competed in the Mustang Devil Mountain Tournament in Danville over the Labor Day Holiday.
