Bridges to jobs
Submitted By Chuck Castagnolo
With unemployment in Alameda County the highest of any area in the State of California, Bridges to Jobs, a no fee Bay Area/Silicon Valley community outreach program in Fremont is helping individuals who are unemployed in their search for a new job. They accomplish their mission through training classes, networking opportunities, job listings when available, and most importantly, emotional support in a safe and caring environment.
Bridges to Jobs works with the Employment Development Department of the State of California, Tri-Cities One Stop Career Center (Ohlone College), Centerville Presbyterian Church Community Outreach Program and the Fremont Unified School District's Continuing Education Department in an effort to assist individuals in job acquisition and career development.
Meetings are held Saturday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the Centerville Presbyterian Church campus located at 4360 Central Avenue, Fremont, Room E201. It is strongly encouraged that those attending come early and stay after to network and build relationships, as in today's employment environment, it is who you know that will get you that job.
In addition to their supportive role, a Job Acquisitions Skills Workshop and Job Fair are scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2008 on the Centerville Presbyterian Church campus. At this workshop, attendees will learn job preparation and search, interviewing success, and how their body language can affect the outcome of an interview. There will also be breakout sessions that will review and critique resumes, teach speech and language, show how to dress for success, build an accomplishments folder to take to interviews, and how create a positive internet presence.
