Nina's Boutique della Sposa

Submitted By Sofia Pinzarrone

After 27 years in business the family operated bridal shop, Nina's Boutique della Sposa, is saying good-bye to all of the brides and families that have passed through its doors. Due to financial struggles and a potential significant increase in rent, it became clear the time had come to close the doors. Nina's has always been a place where a bride, her wedding party and family could come and receive that old fashioned type of attention. From their style selections to fittings and all the accessories that were needed, you always left Nina's Boutique feeling confident that everything was being handled with love and care.

When the Pinzarrone family first arrived from Italy, Maria and her husband Leonard came well equipped with extraordinary tailoring skills. Having both been to the University in Sicily, trained under skilled tailors, they were ready to set up shop and show off their talents. They opened their tailor shop across the street from where Nina's Boutique currently sits. Maria and Leonard together ran their tailor shop for many years. It was during this time Maria discovered her true passion. She designed and sewed her own original wedding gowns. It was this passion that led to the opening of Nina's Boutique della Sposa in 1981.

Starting originally with weddings in mind, Nina's Boutique expanded to include prom and special events attire reaching out to the communities needs. It was a true one stop place for your special day. From the most modest of dresses to the full-blown designer gowns they had what you needed. Besides the variety of dresses and accessories they also carried beautiful veils, undergarments, shoes and hand made jewelry to complete your attire. In addition, the building houses a florist, a hair salon and a seamstress.

Up until her passing, it was not unusual to see Maria Pinzarrone taking special care with her brides and their families. Always in the shop fussing over all the details and making sure everything was perfect. She had an amazing gift of being able to look at a person know their size, and suggest the perfect dress for the occasion. To this day, they have previous brides coming back with their daughters to shop for their prom or wedding and talking about how wonderful Maria was when helping them with their special day so many years ago.

If you ask Maria's daughter Sofia, currently running the shop with long time employee Maricruz, it was a great place to grow up. She will miss all the families, as well as, the rewards and excitement of helping a bride. One of Sofia's favorite moments is helping a bride try on her wedding dress for the first time and looking over to see the tears falling from the bride's mother. "We were a part of one of the most important days of their lives. You just don't forget those moments."

The plan now is to sell out the store including all the fixtures. Currently many items are already marked at 75% off with the final blow-out ending in the coming weeks. We hope to see many of our families stopping by during this time for one last hug and a special "thank you" for being a part of our history.

Nina's Boutique della Sposa is still located in its original location in Hayward at 925 West Winton Ave, between Southland Mall and Hesperian Blvd.
