Learn about healthy sleep

The next AWAKE meeting and lecture will take place on Tuesday, July 29 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Fremont campus of the Palo Alto Medical Clinic. The Palo Alto Medical Clinic is located at 3200 Kearney Street., Fremont. The auditorium is located on the first floor of Building #2 (structure on the left side). There is ample free parking. When you walk through the sliding glass doors you will need to follow the hallway to the left to find the auditorium.
Kevin Gersten, M.D., Ph.D will give a presentation on "Childhood Sleep Disorders." Adult sleeping problems have received significant media attention lately. Many people fail to realize that children also suffer from a variety of sleep issues. Since many of us have children or grandchildren, this topic could be of importance.
Anyone is welcome to attend the AWAKE group meeting, which is free of charge. If you have friends who would like to be added to our e-mail group, please contact Stephanie at CPAP Success. In order to ensure that this group meets the needs of its members, they welcome any suggestions (eg. lecture topics or ways to improve the group) or assistance.
AWAKE stands for Alert Well and Keeping Energetic. This is a national foundation whose whole purpose is to provide education and support to people with sleep disorders. Kevin Gersten, M.D. and Stephanie Gersten started a chapter in Fremont. Meetings are held at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Fremont campus on weeknights usually around 7 p.m. You can find out more detailed information about this foundation at www.sleepapnea.org.
The Fremont chapter tries to get local health care professionals to speak every 4-8 weeks on a topic related to sleep apnea. Once a year we host an Equipment Fair asking all the manufacturers of sleep apnea equipment to come display their product and provide information. This is a particularly useful meeting as patients can view the possible mask and machine options for treating their sleep apnea.
Please call CPAP Success (510) 505-9228 or send an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the email notification list for AWAKE meetings. CPAP Success is an office that sells equipment and provides education and support for people who have sleep apnea. Visit www.cpapsuccess.com, which helps people who are new to the diagnosis of sleep apnea learn more about treatment options.
The AWAKE site, http://www.sleepapnea.org/awake, has useful resources on sleep apnea and a forum people may join or read through that provide some helpful suggestions about the diagnosis and treatment options.
