Community answers Fremont Symphony SOS

The Fremont Symphony Orchestra is happy to announce that the May 10 SOS fundraiser was a great success, raising approximately $50,000. This response demonstrated that the community truly appreciates the Symphony and wants to make sure it stays in business. The 2007-2008 fiscal year will end with an operating budget surplus which will help to pay off part of the Symphony's debt. By cutting expenses during the next two fiscal years, the Symphony hopes to eliminate all of its debt by 2010.

Although the Symphony found it necessary to cancel the May Pops Concert, this concert will now be presented as the opening of the 2008-2009 season on September 27. Other plans for next season include:

Carlos Reyes in concert at Ohlone - October 5
The Nutcracker with Yoko's Dance & Performing Arts Academy - Dec. 5-7
Subscription concerts in March and May, 2009 with programs to be announced.
Two children's concerts in Fremont and two in Milpitas - March, 2009

Ticket information will be available shortly.

Some funding has already been secured for the 2008-2009 programs. Fremont Bank Foundation will again be the season sponsor, as well as sponsoring the Carlos Reyes concert. The California Arts Council will be a major sponsor of the Children's Concerts. The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation continues its support.

The City of Fremont recently voted to support the Symphony with a $5,000 grant.

The Fremont Symphony is most grateful for continued community support and will continue to present the finest in classical music.
