Buddhist Service and Benefit Performance for China Sichuan Earthquake Victims
Submitted By Diana Hong
On May 12, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Sichuan Province in western China. The death toll is estimated to reach over 50,000. This is the most powerful and destructive earthquake since 1976 Tangshan earthquake, which claimed 240,000 lives. The Chinese government has deployed around 100,000 military personnel to carry out rescue and relief work in the area. And around the world concerned individuals and organizations are contributing to help with the relief effort. The staff and students at Shaolin Temple USA in Fremont, CA wish to do our part to help the victims of the disaster. We are holding a Buddhist service and fund raising event for the earth quake victims on Sunday May 25 from 10 am to 5:00 pm at Shaolin Temple USA. We invite members of the community to join together in this effort. Our Shaolin masters will dedicate a Shaolin Kung Fu performance for the relief effort and encourage the community to contribute at the event. San Jose-based Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra will also perform at this benefit event. All proceeds will go to the relief efforts through the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in San Francisco. We look forward to seeing you at the event.
