Make way for Fire Truck Day on May 18
By Bosky Panjvani
Don a firefighter helmet and get ready to have some fun. Fire Truck Day at Ardenwood Historic Farm on Sunday, May 18 is a chance to get up close and personal with new and old fire engines and firefighting equipment. This day promises to be exciting with water games for kids who can participate in the battle of fire trucks; they can squirt as much water as they want on opponents without parental scolding.
There will be plenty of games and craft activities to keep kids engaged and the thrill of climbing onto sparkling red fire engines and ringing the alarm. Fire departments from Fremont, Newark, Ardenwood Historic Farm and some private businesses will bring fire engines for young and old to see, touch and ask questions about dials, knobs and firefighting gear. New and antique fire engines will be on display for a close look. A fire obstacle course will test kids knowledge and fire safety acumen.
Fire engines will only be part of the picture. Visitors will have a chance to meet and greet brave and friendly firefighters who whiz along on these engines as horns blare and bells ring in wake of a fire call. Firefighting personnel will be present to answer questions and help them in the battle of fire trucks. There will be demonstrations of fire safety equipment and emergency kits for home safety as well. Parents and other adults can groove along with the kids as the Bungee Jumpin Cows fill the air with music. Refreshments will be sold at the cafˇ at the farm. Horse drawn train rides and the blacksmith shop will also operate on Fire Truck Day.
Entrance to Fire Truck Day is $5 for adults, $ 4 for children ages 4 to 17 years old and seniors 62 years, and above, there is no charge for children below 4 years of age. Parking to the event will be free.
