Step out program for seniors
By Bosky Panjvani
Summers are the perfect time to venture out for a walk, when the sun is shining brightly and there is crispiness in the air. The Ralph and Mary Ruggieri Senior Center in Union City has planned a day out for the seniors on Saturday, May 10. This Tenth Annual Step Out Walk and Health Fair is sponsored by Kaiser Hospital and the City of Union City Leisure Services Department.
All seniors are invited to be a part of this program, which includes a short and long walk for seniors. There is no admission fee but people interested in taking part in the Step Out program should register at 8:30 a.m. on May 10. Step Out will kick off with warm up exercises as senior citizens gear up to take a short walk from the senior center along Alvarado-Niles Road. For long walk enthusiasts, the walk will begin from the senior center and end at the Alameda Creek Trail.
The day will not end with brisk walks.. Damien Louis will entertain the participants with a piano performance after the walk. Participants will also learn to stay fit with demonstrations on fitness exercises, and there will be different communities and health organizations. Apart from the Union City Library, local businesses will be setting up information booths and providing handouts on the various services available and provided by them. Refreshments will be served during the event.
Participants in Step Out will receive a free T-shirt. The organizers of Step Out are interested in finding more sponsors for this event. For more information, call (510) 675-5495
