Arctic Penguins

Submitted By Blaise Castren

The Arctic Penguins, an FC Fremont Under-14/15 Girls' House League Soccer team, avenged the only blemish on their record with a 2-1 victory over the Rice Krispies on Saturday, April 26. A week and a half earlier, Rice Krispies held the Penguins to a 1-1 tie. The rematch appeared to be following the same script when the Krispies scored an early second-half goal to tie the game at 1-1. However, Erika Becerra scored her eleventh goal of the season to provide the difference as the Penguins improved their record to 6-0-1. Kylie Stoeppel scored the Penguins' other goal. After Becerra's go-ahead goal, Arctic Penguins' goalie, Sara Hearn, came up with two huge saves to preserve the victory. Shannon Grant had a shot that hit the post for the Penguins while Mariah Heimsoth and Mahsa Dinyari both had excellent offensive games. Nicole Byrnes played well defensively.
