Hiawatha performance at Chabot
The Montessori School of Fremont will present one performance of the children's opera 'The Song of Hiawatha' at the Chabot College Theater in Hayward. Based on the poem written in 1855 by Henry Wadworth Longfellow, readings from this work will precede each act of the play.
'The Song of Hiawatha' is the school's seventh production with Youth Opera International, an organization dedicated to helping children discover the joy of music, dance and drama. Composer Sanford Jones and choreographer Judy Jones have co-directed original operas such as this one for performances by elementary-age children.
Children perform all of the parts supported by renowned soprano Jane Chen founder and co-creator of the award-winning Chinese Clown Cabaret performed at Carnegie Hall with the CityKids. Chen has appeared on TV shows including The Babysitters Club, In the Mix and Visions of America. She has worked with U.C. Berkeley, Splash Circus and Ten Red Hen as an acting and voice teacher.
Montessori School of Fremont's annual operas are known for their professional presentation, extensive sets and beautiful costumes. The acting and singing talents of the children are showcased in this presentation. Considering a short, intense week of rehearsal, Montessori performances are warm, moving and amazing. The untiring efforts of Montessori staff and parent volunteers are evident in every aspect of these performances.
A unique and rewarding experience for young and old alike, this is opera as you have never seen it before. The Song of Hiawatha is a must-see event. Tickets are available at Montessori School of Fremont or at the Chabot College Theater.
