Artic Penguins remain unbeaten
Submitted By Blaise Castren
In a battle of the league's only unbeaten teams, the Artic Penguins rallied to defeat Chaos, 2-1, on Saturday, April 12. After perennial power Chaos took a 1-0 lead, Penguins' Kylie Stoeppel tied the game, 1-1, with a long shot over the Chaos goalie's head. Erika Becerra tallied the game winner for Artic Penguins in the second half after a nifty move around a Chaos defender. Paige Castren had a standout all-around game for the winners that included a nice shot on goal. Vanessa Barrera and Rebecca Milani had big games on defense while Shannon Grant played well on offense as the Penguins improved their record to 4-0.
Icebirds exploded for three second-half goals to defeat the Cyclones, 4-1, in an Under-12 Fremont Girl's House League game also played Saturday, April 12. Excellent passing was a key to all four goals for the Icebirds who are now 3-0-1 for the season. Raquel Rodas scored the first goal on an excellent crossing pass from Elena Strom. Later, the Cyclones tied the game, 1-1, on a penalty kick. The Icebirds then pulled away in the second half as Strom, Jenna Wondka and Ashley Campbell scored goals on assists from Katie Courville, Cindy Tafolla and Devin Minter. Arian Ezat and Lauren Youhanna also had good games for the Icebirds. |
