What an exciting game played at Niles Centerville Little League's Minor League Field on Saturday, April 5, between the Minor B Cardinals and Royals. After five innings of play, the score was tied 5-5.In the sixth inning, an RBI by Colton Casey of the Royals plated the final run of the game to give the Royals a 6-5 victory. For the game, the Cardinals had 18 hits and the Royals 23, including a double by each team. The Cardinals' Filepe Marasigan doubled in the first inning, while Thomas Poinatowski of the Royals smashed his double in the third.
Surprising plays in the outfield also made for an exciting game.Matthew McKinney, playing shortstop for the Royals, made two line drive catches earning him the game pin. For the Cardinals, their shortstop, Mike Schmid, caught two fly balls in one inning. The Royals' game ball went to Tanner Granzella for turning the first double play of the season when, in the fifth inning, he caught a fly ball while playing third base then threw to McKinney, now playing first base, to double up the runner at first for the second out. Granzella's play earned the team root beer floats. |
