Broncho Billy's tea dance
Dance up a storm to the authentic dance music of the teens, twenties and thirties played by Don Neely's Royal Society Five. If you say to yourself, "Hey I recognize that piano player", then you're right. It's Frederick Hodges, one of the great movie pianists pounding the ivories as part of the band.
If you can use a little dance coaching, The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum will have Cynthia Glinka, dance instructor to the stars, on hand to give you tips for some of the popular dances of the era.
Tea sandwiches and specialty teas will be provided by Tyme For Tea, a wonderful tea room just down the street from the museum. There will be other refreshments to wet your whistle as well.
You can go online at http://www.nilesfilmmuseum.org/teadance.htm for more details and advance tickets which are recommended since space is limited. Tickets are also available by phone at (510) 494-1411 or at the Museum, from Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Suggested donation is $20.
