Daffodil Tea at Shinn House

By Anuja Seith

Teatime rituals often create little spaces in time where every sip encourages conversation and nurtures relationships. Shinn House with its Daffodil Tea offers guests a chance to relax, strike conversations and cultivate shared confidences. "I have some of the ladies who come to all my teas and they talk so much that there is hardly a need to put on music," laughs Michi Yee, a volunteer at Shinn House. This is the second year of the Daffodil Tea, the first one in 2005 to benefit the Mission Heritage Foundation and provide a fun activity for the community. "Daffodils are the first flowers to bloom in spring and they are a symbol of hope," explains Yee. Tables will be decorated with blossoming daffodils, figurines and guests will be served in daffodil cups and saucers.

Volunteer Jessi Stokes plans work wonders with her food decorations and Barbara Anderson will provide the volunteers with white batten burg aprons. Tea goers are encouraged to dress for a fun afternoon with hats decked with flowers or strips to flow with the theme. Sherri Allison, a guest speaker will provide the piece de resistance as she shares her daffodils collection of cups, dishes, figurines and mementos that capture the essences of this beautiful flower.
