An invitation to join the Budget Advisory Task Force
By Superintendent Dale Vigil, Ed.D
Hayward Public Schools are facing a severe fiscal challenge over the next several years. Because of Governor Schwarzenegger's proposed budget cuts of ten percent across the board, we must reduce our budget by $18 to $20 million in Hayward Unified. These deep cuts will be devastating to Hayward schools and the services we provide for students.
In order to address the challenge ahead, I am looking to form a Budget Advisory Task Force. The Budget Advisory Task Force will be a 30 to 40-member group comprised of representatives from our employee organizations (HEA, AEOTE, and SEIU), parents and community members. The goal of the Budget Advisory Task Force will be to advise me on the prioritized items to bring to the Board of Trustees for recommended cuts.
The Budget Advisory Task Force will meet for four (4) sessions: Feb. 20, Feb. 25, March 11, and March 18. The meetings will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Student Information and Assessment Center (SIAC) located at 27211 Tyrrell Ave. in Hayward.
In an effort to gather input from all stakeholders, I encourage anyone interested in being part of the Budget Advisory Task Force to fill out and return an application form to the HUSD District Office. You may also call us at (510) 784-2600, ext. 72840 or email email@example.com for any questions about the process.
The last day to apply for the Budget Task Force is Thursday, Feb. 14, by 5 p.m. We will randomly select the members on Friday, Feb. 15, at noon. Once the members of the Budget Task Force have been finalized, we will send out detailed information to the group about the upcoming sessions.
Thank you in advance for your support. We appreciate your involvement and welcome your support in advocating for our students and Hayward public schools.
