Free income tax preparation

If your family income is less than $42,000 annually, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program volunteers can help you file your tax returns for free! You may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and/or other credits you did not know about.
The VITA program, sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), is available for qualifying families and individuals at the Fremont Family Resource Center Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 - 8 p.m. thru Monday, April 14. Again, this is a free service, and there will be free on-site child care available as well. Services will be closed on Monday, Feb. 18 for President's Day.
The items you need to bring with you for your free income tax assistance are a social security card, drivers license or other official picture ID, all forms (W-2 and 1099's) for all 2007 jobs and income, information for other income (savings, IRA's, interest), and information for all deductions and credits. For deductions, we will need to know the childcare provider (SSN or EIN and address) and the name, address and phone number of landlord (if applicable). A copy of last year's tax return is helpful, and married couples filing jointly must arrive together. For Direct Deposit of tax refund, please bring routing and account numbers for savings and/or checking accounts for split refund service and a faster refund.
For more information, call Deborra Lay, VITA Coordinator at (510) 574-2020.
