The Fremont Table Tennis Club (FTTC) is now open for drop-in play for junior training on Saturdays and Sundays from 5 - 7 p.m. Juniors (under age 18) may drop in for $5 per visit and be trained by former 15 time National Champion and Club President Shashin Shodhan.

Shodhan was an alternate on the 2000 USA Olympic Team in Sydney and was also a member of the U.S. National Collegiate Team while earning his Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of California in Berkeley. A member of the U.S. Junior National Team, Shodan has been coached by some of the best world and U.S. coaches. Shodhan just got back from China where he spent three months learning more about coaching youth from the Chinese, the world's best table tennis players.

FTTC is available for adult open play at $7 per visit on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7 - 10 p.m. and on Saturday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Three to four tables are available for open play as is an AMDT Robot (similar to a tennis or baseball pitching machine) for $10 per half-hour.

The Club is located in the Galleria Shopping Center, behind 7-Eleven, and on the corner of Warm Springs Boulevard and Gable Drive. Private and group lessons, clinics for corporate, church, and other groups, along with exhibitions may be requested.

Shodhan hopes to have interschool competition between all 40 schools (elementary, middle and high schools) in the Fremont Unified School District within five years. Right now Irvington and Mission San Jose High Schools have table tennis clubs approved by the schools. Table tennis has not reached the varsity level in CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) at this time.

If you are interested in learning how to play table tennis (ping pong) check out FTTC. It is also a very good way to exercise during the wet and cold winter months.
