Applications accepted for AC Transit committee
Applications are being accepted from individuals who are interested in volunteering to serve on the District's Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC).
The ACC consists of 14 members with two members being appointed by each of the seven elected members of the District's Board of Directors. Representation on the committee will cover all geographical areas of the District. Committee members shall serve a term of one (1) year beginning March 1st. Members hall continue to serve after one year until their successors are appointed, but shall not extend beyond the appointing Director's term of office. Appointed members shall complete and file with the District Secretary a Statement of Economic Interest pursuant to the District's Conflict of Interest Code.
It is important that there be representation by people who utilize AC Transit's fixed route bus system, are seniors or individuals with a disability or who represent groups of seniors or individuals with a disability. The AAC encourages individuals from a variety of ethnic groups to submit applications.
The ACC has been established by the District to review, comment and advise the Board of Directors and District staff regarding implementation and enhancement of programs and services for elderly and disabled people. The ACC currently meets on the second Tuesday afternoon of every month in the 10th floor conference room located at 1600 Franklin Street in Oakland. Regular meetings typically last 3 1/2 hours (begin at 1 p.m. and run until 4:30 p.m.) Committee members are expected to be on time to all meetings and be prepared to offer input and participate in the Committee process.
Preferred applicants should have some experience using AC Transit services. Along with identifying problems and offering probably solutions and ideas, they should also have respect for others, be open to hearing divergent points of view, be able to attend meetings and commit up to six (6) hours a month to committee-related work.
Although it is not required, it is recommended that prospective applicants attend a meeting to gain more insight as to the Committee's function and purpose. It is requested that participants and attendees of AAC meetings are asked to refrain from wearing scented products as there may be attendees who are susceptible to environmental illnesses. Upon advance request, sign language interpreters will be provided for hearing impaired persons attending ACC meetings.
All AAC members, during their tenure on the AAC will receive a fixed route bus pass similar to the type of pass provided by the District to its temporary employees.
Applications may be obtained from the District Secretary's Office. Applications must be returned to that office by February 1, 2008.
