Hayward celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Join the Hayward community on Monday, Jan. 21, for two free events honoring the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
An MLK Rally and March at Hayward City Hall Plaza on Watkins Street, between B Street and C Street will be held from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Readings of Dr. King's speeches, music by local choral groups and musicians will be followed by a march in the local area. The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration at Centennial Hall will be held at 6 p.m. This free event will feature Diane Ferlatte, nationally known and award-winning storyteller; special memorabilia display from the Negro Baseball League; "big screen" photos of Dr. King's life; musical tributes featuring youth choirs and musicians of the Hayward Unified School District; and a display of youth essays and art that focus on the celebration theme: "A Day On - Not a Day Off: How Can You Keep Dr. King's Dream Alive Today?"
