"Many people may have received packages shipped from out-of-town family, friends, and relatives that contain packaging 'peanuts," said Corazon Sumagaysay, owner of PostalAnnex+ of Hayward. "Rather than filling the trash can and creating more landfill, why not recycle them?" Recycling the peanuts is good for the environment and good for you as well. According to the Plastic Loose Fill Council, close to 45 million pounds of loose fill are produced each year in this country. While some newer forms of packaging peanuts are made from biodegradable contents such as starch, most forms are not biodegradable.
