January 2, 2008 > Union City resident wins first place Union City resident wins first place Submitted By Emily Santos Union City resident, Jessica Santos, ended her first year of gymnastic competition by earning first place All-Around at the Northern California Level 4 State Championship for her age division at Rancho Cordova on Saturday, Dec. 1. Jessica had an amazing total winning score of 37.625, earning a 1st place on the Floor, first place on the Beam, second place on the Bars, and third place on the Vault. Her teammates, Amalia Barret of Fremont, placed third, and Kiana Nues of Fremont, placed fifth for the All-Around standings for their age division at the State Championship. All three train at Top Flight Gymnastics in Fremont with Coach Paul Odze. Jessica had an unforgettable season because she also earned first place "All-Around" at three out of the five other gymnastic meets she competed this year. "Because this was her first year, we tried not to emphasize any pressure on her" said her dad, Rudy Santos. "However, we are very surprised and proud of how well she has done." Congratulations to Jessica Santos for her memorable accomplishments for 2007 and good luck for what the future entails for this young 8-year-old local resident.
